That’s a good question. I don’t know if somebody can steal your id from just knowing your name, address, phone # and birth date or not. Usually when id theft occurs, it involves thieves stealing social security numbers, bank account numbers, and/or credit card numbers. To get a free credit report, go on and These are the three main credit bureaus. In terms of protecting yourself, never give out personal info. online or over the phone unless you’ve initiated the transaction with a reputable company. Do not carry your social security card in your purse or wallet; keep it in a safe deposit box like I do; do not have your social security # printed on your checks or drivers license. When applying for a job, never give out your social security # over the phone if asked. If you think you’ve been a victim of id theft, act immediately! Contact police, the federal trade commission, your bank, and the three credit bureaus. Good luck.

Of course someone can. It happens every day.
has some good info on LifeLock and also has coupon codes you can use to sign up for 30 days free to see if you like it. Here is the exact post for those coupon codes:

The best thing you can do is sign up for identity theft protection. These days its really cheap and they do all the work to protect your name, and you can relax. If you do become a victim of fraud, they will do all the work and front all the costs to removed fraudulent activity from your credit.

This site compares all of the top identity theft protection services. Personally, I recommend Identity Truth as the best.
