Identity Theft?

Marie P asked:

As a victim of identity theft is there any way to find and or prosecute the perpetrator(s)? I have some information leading back to them but not sure as to how to go about using it . Law inforcement has been of little to no help.

Prosecuting perpetrators identity theft is difficult for a number of reasons. Inside the US, the crime often spans jurisdictions – the criminal is in Florida, while the victim is in Colorado, creating bureaucratic issues. More often, however, identity theft is perpetrated by organized syndicates outside of the US, and therefore beyond the jurisdiction of US law enforcement.

A caveat to consider is that in a number of cases, the victim actually knows the criminal.

My company, ID Watchdog, focuses primarily on restoring the identities of victims. However, we always interface with local law enforcement and are occasionally successful at facilitating arrests.

The FTC has all kinds of laws. It is better to have a lawyer help you with all of this.
