Recently I was asked for a copy of my driver’s license ostensibly for identification purposes only. With the rash of identity theft going on I’m concerned that this could be an attempt to commit that crime. Is the information contained on a driver’s license sufficeint to do this?

Oh yeah. A lot of states have gone away from putting social security numbers on driver’s licenses. But a driver’s license number is just as good for a criminal to steal your identity.

Depends on if they have your check book too??? ;) Usually, the information on your DL alone is not enough but people can use it to get your address and steal your mail that might contain more information that they need. It is just one of the pieces that someone could use to steal your identity. If they had your check book also then they could use the DL to verify the check (that is if they look anything like you). I would watch my mail box and my checking account if I were you. Good Luck!
